I got a PS3 over a year ago. Of course shortly after I had to get a 52 in flat screen to go with it. I love it and use it for movie night and gaming!

Sony's cocked up big style!!!!!First of all, there's a few things you should notice:

Most/All of the affected PS3's are the "fat" PS3's, supposedly the Slim versions 120GB and 250GB were spared and are still functionning with PSN.

The effects are as follows:
-Date changes back to 12/31/1999 (Feel free to join in the Y2K jokes)
-PSN inactive
-PS3 games highly dependant on online or with trophies will typically not work. Trophyless games should still work
-PS1 Classics should no longer work either
-DLC should be unavailable for the most parts.

Hard copy PS1 and PS2 games supposedly still works.

There are various theories as to what the trouble is. Some say it's because it is a leap year, others because it isn't a leap year, we've got rumors of a hacker though it's unlikely as people who have remained offline with their PS3's have also experienced the same trouble.

Unproven and unchecked yet is if your PS3 can survive the ordeal by not having been turned on during this day, though most would digress that the internal clock still moves forward and when turned on, you'd still be affected. Wait a day or two to check back on this one.

Note: If there's a firmware patch comming, you can still download it without PSN. Go to Setting with an internet access

More info can be found in the Playstation 3 Message Board:

Playstation 3 Twitter:

And gaming news sites such as Kotaku:

This is a global problem. As such, logically, Sony must be currently working their asses off as to avoid this PR nightmare that would surely cause quite a strain in it's consummer/provider relations.

Of some games which still works, from what I've seen and gathered are:
Bioshock 2 (Unchecked)
Oblivion (Unchecked)
Saint's Row 2* (Checked, though I didn't download any of the DLC)
Uncharted 1 (Unchecked)
Uncharted 2 (Unchecked)

Demos are playable
Someone said that his fully bought PSN games reverted back to Demos, unconfirmed.
Trophies are said to remain, as they are registered in your HDD, and not online, thus not lost.
Save corruption is denied by the more rational thinking ones, as like with Trophies, they're HDD dependant. Just don't shut down the console while it's saving.

When you boot your PS3 up, the system clock says (or should say), "Its March 01 2010, set yourself as March 01 2010 mr OS"
The system clock is always running and never stops, even when your PS3 is off, it has a backup battery and recharges when your PS3 is on
Basically, it runs 24/7 counting upwards
The clock can not be altered by software or by hacking it and it only counts upwards
NOW, the system clock thinks theres a Feb 29th, so instead of rolling over to March 1st, it went over to Feb 29th and now when it tries to compare the system clock with the OS clock when you load your PS3 up, the OS clock thinks, "woooooaaahh, **bleep** is going on here" and it sets it to 1999

PS3 models affected:
CECHA01 - affected
CECHE01 - affected
CECHG01 - affected
CECHH01 - affected
CECHK01 - affected
CECHL01 - not affected
CECHP01 - not affected

Now, theres two solutions:
A. Kill the system clock so it restarts (you do this by taking the battery out in your PS3 + void your warranty)
B. Wait till March 2nd and hope that the clock fliks over to March 1st

Now the above is what everyone is talking about on the internet, but from my knowledge, I can tell you we are possibly looking at a mass recall by Sony

Why? Because as I said the system clock only counts UPWARDS and never downwards
And it is fully protected, even if Sony came to your house and done a hypervisor call on your PS3 to reset your clock, it wouldn't work
The ONLY way to reset the clock is to take out the battery, thus, voiding your warranty
Firmware update would also resolve NOTHING because its not a software issue, the software is perfect, its a hardware issue

Even if Sony worked some miracle and brought out an update, 50% of PS3 users don't even have internet access, or no internet on their PS3's, so how will they update? USB? Game disc?

The fact of the matter is Sony is in great trouble, they don't know where they are going to end up after this

So what WILL Sony do?
Easy answer, wait until 12:01AM GMT (the system clock runs in GMT no matter what timezone you are in) and hope that the system clock fliks over to March 1st
But what if it fliks over to February 30th?
Then Sony will have no choice but to do a recall, because as explained before it is unpatchable and there is no working solution unless you void your warranty

All thanks to Sony Computer Entertainment

Brilliant Sony, you really outdid yourselves this time

I'm a pc gamer but I have a couple PS1 consoles, 2 Gamecubes, NES, SNES, Sega, maybe more that I forgot about, old school stuff I guess.

Had a Gameboy color, Nintendo 64 but sold them not to long ago.

If I did get a console it would be a PS4
